Yes. You can install our automatic gate operators on almost all types of gates. Please check the gate to pier hinge measurements before choosing. You can order online or contact us to discuss your needs. Remember, in automating your gates, you are in effect, turning them into a machine and machinery directives must, therefore, be adherred to. Be safe, not sorry.
Why should I install automatic gates?
There are several reasons to do so, including security and privacy, but also convenience (particularly in a heavy down pour!). If you have young children, it can also stop them wandering out of the premises. It can create a natural barrier for greater perimeter security.
Where can I buy products?
You can order our products with confidence from our online shop on this website, using secure data servers with 128-bit encryption from Paypal, or by using offline payments via PayOffline. We also accept cheques if you contact us first. We always appreciate your custom.
What if I don't know which kit I need?
If you are not fully sure of the kit you need, please contact us with some approximate gate sizes, weights, hinge measurements, etc, so we can help in choosing you the correct kit.
Why should I choose an EN Tested kit?
This is a question of greater safety. The motors, themselves are manufactured to the latest standards regarding the impact forces generated during operation. This makes for safe operation.
How should I start installing?
Obviously, you will need to be a competent fitter and have the correct tools. But a more important task to undertake is a risk assessment.
Why do I need to do a risk assessment?
Some people shy away from this but it is of critical importance. It doesn't even have to be hard - after all, we are all making these decisions every day without noticing. For instance, when crossing the road you have to check for traffic, assess it's position and speed, before you cross. When installing your gate, assess its daily operation and the immediate surrounding area. Are ther any hazards present? Will you introduce any hazards in fitting gate automation?
What should I look out for?
Look out for things such as crushing zones - is there enough room for a person if trapped behind the gates? 500mm of space is a good start, if not, you may need further safety devices such as a deformable safety edge. Be careful where you position exit buttons or intercoms/keypads - the user must never be in a position of possible injury whilst operating the gates. Also, the hinge side of the gate should not be more than 100mm away from the edge of the post/pier - this is to prevent a child trying to slip through a gap. Remember, the hinge end has the most power/torque and is, therefore, the most dangerous.
Should I use 24 volt or 230 volt operators?
This depends on the installation itself. Generally speaking, 24 volt operators are useful in a residential environment where lighter gates are used and safety is paramount, as most of the 24 volt operators are EN Compliant. Having said that, some 230 volt operators are now meeting European Standards. 230 volt operators can be used either residentially or commercially but are normally used with larger gates in commercial applications. 24 volt systems can benefit from having optional battery backup installed in the event of power cuts. Both systems will need a 230 volt feed either way. 230 volt systems can work out cheaper as there are less control electronics involved. Please be aware that 230 volt systems have a duty cycle of approx 30% whereas 24 volt systems are designed for intensive use.
What does 30% Duty Cycle mean?
What tools will I need?
All our Came operators/motors, kits and direct accessories come with a 36-month warranty. All intercoms, locks, enclosures, cable and other sundry items have a 12-month warranty.
What happens if we have a power cut?
An optional extra battery backup card with batteries can be purchased and installed, however, if there is no backup battery on your gate operator, a key is provided to unlock the motor mechanism for free access until such time that the power is restored.
Will I need a lock?
As a rule, gates over 2.5 metres in length will require locking although you may install a lock on any size gate to increase security. There are several lock options including electric solenoid type or maglock.
How will I open my gate?
All kits come with 2 remote control transmitters so upon depressing the remote button, the gate will open for the programmed length of time before closing. You may also want to install an user controlled keypad for pedestrians. Some users like to use an inductive ground loop placed under the drive that detects metal objects (e.g. car) that will pulse the gate to open upon exit.
Can I open the gates from my house?
Yes. We provide a range of access control equipment. Wired, wireless or GSM options are available which can then be integrated to control the gate. We are happy to help you choose the best solution.
What safety features are included in your kits?
